Alnylam Named #1 Largest Employer in MA for 2nd Year in a Row by The Boston Globe

November 30, 2022

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals

The ability to attract and retain talent is a challenge that virtually all employers in biopharma face, and nowhere is that challenge bigger than in Massachusetts where the sheer number of life sciences companies and a steady stream of biotech start-ups provides employees with abundant opportunities.

Since our founding in 2002, Alnylam has recognized that incredible people and the strength of our culture would be critical to our ability to pioneer an entirely new class of medicines and deliver life-changing medicines for patients. Which is why we've focused so much on recruiting top talent who believe in our mission and nurturing a workplace environment that inspires people to stay and be part of what we're building.

That our employees, through the annual Boston Globe Top Places to Work survey, have made us a Top Place to Work for the 8th consecutive year and the #1 ranked company on the "Largest Employers" list for the second year in a row is proof that those efforts have paid off. See the full Larges Employers (>1000 employees) list here.

To be ranked first on this list two years running is a testament to our commitment to excellence and the strength of our company culture. When you build an atmosphere that’s diverse, equitable, inclusive, and full of high-performing, challenge-hungry people looking to change the world, good things happen. - Dr. Yvonne Greenstreet, Alnylam CEO

The 2022 Top Places to Work survey was completed by more than 94,000 employees at 381 companies in Massachusetts - a record high. They complete an anonymous, research-backed survey assessing categories such as their company’s direction, execution, connection, communication, management, work, pay and benefits. The list spotlights companies that support employees both in and out of the office, including caregiving, mental health, and other out-of-office needs.

According the The Boston Globe, "It’s not just about remote vs. hybrid and who’s working where. It’s about employers coming to terms with the fact that their employees need, and deserve, more — more flexibility, yes, but also more support, more humanity, and a greater sense of purpose. And as the labor shortage stretches on, and workers continue to job hop with abandon, companies are in no place to ignore their wishes. The 150 organizations that made this year’s Top Places to Work list understand this."

This exciting recognition comes on the heels of Alnylam’s recent inclusion on Science magazine’s Science Top Employers list for the fourth consecutive year, being named a Fortune Magazine Best Workplace for Women and being ranked Fast Company's #1 Best Workplace for Innovators for 2022, our second year in a row on that list.
