At Alnylam, being "a responsible company" is about more than pledging to make a difference or totaling up our volunteer hours. It's about the initiatives we undertake, the community organizations we work with and the decisions we make about how we plan to grow. It's also about living by our values in the way that we do business and the example we aim to set within our industry.
Our long-held core values, and the passion of our people are what drive us to make a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work that goes beyond the medicines we make. That desire has shaped our approach to corporate responsibility, the actions we take as a company and the transparency with which we report out on our efforts.
As a growing and not yet profitable company, the size of our philanthropy, volunteerism and other efforts to give back is a fraction of that of many other U.S. companies and our industry peers in biopharma, but we know that the sweat-equity, creativity and enthusiasm of our people allow us to punch far above our weight class. That's why we're so thrilled to be recognized as one of America's Most Responsible Companies for the 2nd year in a row by Newsweek and research firm Statista.
This prestigious Newsweek list, ranks the top 600 companies in America based on a holistic view of their corporate responsibility taking into account the three pillars of "ESG" (environment, social and corporate governance).
We are proud to be named a Newsweek Most Responsible Company for the second year in a row. Whether it's developing innovative new medicines, our efforts to reduce our environmental impact, support of education or work to help address health inequities, Alnylam employees strive each day to make a meaningful impact that improves the health of humanity." – Arun Skaria, Sr. Director of Corporate Social Responsibility
According to Newsweek, the annual list "honors companies that actually mean it when they say they are serious about being good corporate citizens."
In the 2024 rankings, Alnylam was #376 – up 46 spots from #422 last year, and ranked #35 within the "Health Care & Life Sciences" industry category – up 3 spots.
Rankings were determined from a candidate pool of the top 2,000 public companies by revenue with headquarters in the U.S. America’s Most Responsible Companies were selected based on publicly available key performance indicators (KPI) derived from published CSR Reports, Sustainability Reports, and other reports as well as an independent survey. The KPIs focused on company performance in the environmental, social, and corporate governance areas, while the independent survey asked U.S. citizens about their perception of company activities related to corporate social responsibility.
