From AI-enabled detection to coordinated care, helping accelerate the path from recognition to action

For patients with transthyretin amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM), the path to effective care often begins with a challenge: receiving the right diagnosis before the disease irreversibly advances.
Despite growing awareness of ATTR-CM, many patients still face a fragmented journey marked by missed signals, delayed referrals and inconsistent care pathways, resulting in delayed diagnosis or identification only after the disease has significantly progressed.
Closing the diagnostic gap requires coordinated efforts across the healthcare ecosystem to improve disease recognition, accelerate diagnosis and connect patients to appropriate care.
Through its latest collaborations, Alnylam is helping drive solutions that support earlier identification, more informed clinical decision-making and a more connected patient experience.
ATTR-CM often hides in plain sight.
Patients may undergo routine cardiac imaging for years before the disease is recognized. The solution isn’t always more testing; it’s seeing what’s already there, sooner.
Through a collaboration with a large healthcare system in California, Alnylam is supporting their study, DETECT-ATTR, evaluating Invision Precision Cardiac Amyloid, an AI-enabled, FDA-cleared, echocardiography-based screening approach for the detection of cardiac amyloidosis. The study aims to address underdiagnosis and improve disease recognition in clinical practice. By bringing detection into everyday care settings, the goal is to shift diagnosis earlier when it can have the greatest impact.
Achieving earlier diagnosis also requires a deeper understanding of how ATTR-CM is recognized and experienced across different patient populations. Women with ATTR-CM have historically been underdiagnosed and underrepresented in research, limiting understanding of how the disease presents and is recognized in clinical practice.
Through its sponsorship of the Women As One Mentorship Award, Alnylam is supporting research designed to advance understanding of ATTR-CM in women, including investigations into sex-specific disease differences, AI models trained on female datasets and how women with ATTR-CM interact with healthcare systems. Together, these efforts aim to help ensure advances in detection reach all patients who may benefit.
Diagnosing a patient with ATTR-CM is only the first step. What follows is just as critical.
Too often, patients experience delays between suspicion, confirmatory testing and specialist referral. These gaps can slow diagnosis and limit timely intervention.
We are partnering with Viz.ai, the leader in AI-powered disease detection and care coordination, to develop an AI-enabled ATTR-CM care pathway designed to help clinicians identify patients earlier in the course of disease and guide appropriate diagnostic evaluation and referral.
The pathway combines an FDA-cleared echocardiography AI algorithm, Us2.ai, with electronic health record connectivity and integration into routine clinical practice to help close the gap between the first clinical signal and the next steps in diagnosis and care.
ATTR-CM care doesn’t happen in one place.
It spans cardiology, heart failure specialists, neurologists and beyond. Without coordination, even the right diagnosis can lead to inconsistent management.
Alnylam is a proud supporter of the American Heart Association’s IMPACT ATTR (Integrated Multidisciplinary Pathways Advancing Comprehensive Treatment) Initiative.
IMPACT ATTR is a three-year initiative that brings together 10 multidisciplinary health systems in a national learning collaborative designed to identify gaps in care, share best practices and scale effective models for diagnosing and managing ATTR-CM.
Insights generated through the program will be disseminated nationally to help improve care delivery and outcomes for patients with ATTR‑CM.
While each collaboration addresses a different challenge, together they reflect a common goal: helping patients move more efficiently from the first signs of disease to diagnosis and coordinated care. By supporting innovations in detection, clinical workflows and care delivery, Alnylam is working with partners across the healthcare ecosystem to improve how ATTR-CM is identified and managed in the real world.
ATTR-CM remains a significantly underrecognized disease, but growing awareness, advances in technology and stronger care coordination are creating new opportunities to improve the patient experience. Through these collaborations, Alnylam is helping support practical, scalable solutions designed to bring patients to diagnosis and care sooner.
